Tranquil Vale Luskintyre White 2007
(Pictured Right)

I was only having a little preach about the synergy of semillon/chardonnay blends the other day and then in pops this bottle which is an even split of the two grapes (thus sen ding any viticulturalists reading into flat spin by mentioning splitting and grapes in the same sentence.

Aromas of lemon, green apple and green herbs. On the palate light and fairly crisp with green apple, lemon barley and lemon juice, green herb and a litlle peachy sweetness. Acid is a little prominent and edgy at this stage but should settle back into the wine with a little more age. Finishes with some sour green apple flavours. A nice fresh summer white.

Tranquil Vale Semillon 2006 (Pictured Right)

A light and breezy Semillon that is young, fresh and vibrant in composition. Full of citrus characters, plenty of green herbs, straw and a light hint of tropical fruit. Pure fruit at the accompanied by lively acidity. The lemons and limes linger on the finish to make for a refreshing well made Semillon. Try this with grilled chicken breast.

Rating: 89                  Alv/Vol: 11.0%

Drink: 2007 - 2014      RRP: $17.00

Phil Griffiths is another who has made the 'Sea change' to take up grape-growing and winemaking. He gave up a career as a foreign exchange money broker in the UK and various other parts of the world to work the Hunter Valley vineyard he and his wife established in 1996.

CURRENT RELEASE 2006 Very pale, with a vague greenish tinge, this smells totally undeveloped with lemon and lime juice and steely aromas of great purity. In the mouth it shows lemony delicacy with persistent flavour and a tight, long finish. Like most pristine young Hunter Semillons, we recommend that you hide it away for some years for it to develop. It would go well with grilled, delicately flavoured fish.

Tranquil Vale Chardonnay 2004 (Pictured right)

The Griffiths family have been producing their own unique style of wines at Tranquil Vale since 1999. They specialise in Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz, the Hunter Valley's stalwart grape varieties and in a short time have developed an impressive wine tourism operation there through their development of a vineyard, accomodation and winemaking facility. This Chardonnay is a testimony to the fruits of their efforts. Elegant and restrained at first then the subtle peach and melon characters start to evolve. Light to medium weight and quite fragrant fruit emanates. Hints of citrus follow, as does cashew nuts and some lovely fresh acidity, making for a well melded drop. Delicious to savour with stir-fried prawns.
